Sir: Venlafaxine, a newer bicyclic antidepressant, acts as aserotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). Besidesimproving depressive symptoms, venlafaxine has also beendemonstrated to alleviate vasomotor symptoms.1 It is being increasinglyused as a nonhormonal drug to treat hot flashes,mostly in those women with concerns about or contraindicationsto estrogen-containing preparations.2
