Article Abstract

Because this piece has no abstract, we have provided for your benefit the first 3 sentences of the full text.

To the Editor: Priapism is a prolonged, painful, and persistentpenile erection usually not associated with sexual stimulation.Priapism results from an obstruction in the venousdrainage of the corpora cavernosa of the penis sparing the glanspenis and corpora spongiosa; thus, only the corpora cavernosaare turgid without affecting the other 2 components. It isthis finding that distinguishes priapism from a normal penileerection.1
